Ammonium alum, also known as ammonium aluminum sulfate, is
a white crystalline double sulfate with the formula (NH4)Al(SO4)2·12H2O. It is produced by evaporating a water solution containing ammonium sulfate and aluminum sulfate. It can also be obtained by treating a mixture of aluminum sulfate and sulfuric acid with ammonia.
Ammonium alum is used in small amounts in a variety of niche applications, including:
Water purification, Vegetable glues, Porcelain cements, Deodorants, Tanning, Dyeing, Fireproofing textiles, Animal repellant sprays.
